Omdat 12 nieuwsbriefitems nog niet genoeg informatie was, geef ik jullie ook 12 weetjes over het getal 12 mee. Als je hersenen al deze informatie niet kunnen verwerken, heb je pech, want je zal het toch allemaal moeten lezen. Ik probeer het kort te houden…
12 is een natuurlijk getal
Afgelopen woensdag gaf de wijze man met de baard ons een fijne uiteenzetting over de symfonie uit de nieuwe wereld. Als je graag met de man met de baard verder in gesprek gaat over de prachtige muziek, dan kan dat uiteraard op één van de vele baravonden in Hamburg of bij een koffietje tijdens het ontbijt. Nog wat wijze woorden voor de aanvang van de stage:
“bereid je thuis, op de bus en overal vooral voor op de eerste tutti-repetitie op maandagavond in Hamburg: de dans van de imposante Indiaan en medicijnman Pau Puk Keewie (3e deel van Dvooooooooordjak) en de Finale van het celloconcerto (Reh. Numb ‘59’).”
12 is het aantal decipelen van Jezus
Die 12 apostelen waren altijd goed op tijd aanwezig wanneer Jezus een uitstapje plande voor hen. Gaan jullie ook allemaal op tijd zijn voor het vertrek van de stage? Dat is dus maandag om 8u30 aan Campus De Sterre, met valies en instrument.
Gebeurd er maandagochtend iets onverwacht waardoor je te laat zal komen, laat dit dan zo snel mogelijk weten aan Maarten (0468136939) of Mathijs (0470051969).
12 wordt als het getal van de perfectie gezien
Ook perfectie is het puzzelwerk dat nodig is om ons allemaal met bagage in de bus van Dirk te krijgen. Daarom even dit bericht van Matimaton, reisbestuurder en logistieker van dienst:
Onze buschauffeur Dirk (chille kerel, echt waar) zal niet de capaciteit hebben om alle instrumenten mee te vervoeren, daarom zullen alle grotere instrumenten (cello’s, hoorns, trombones, altviolen?) mee moeten met de transdeco (camionette) aka the Beast. Er zullen twee momenten zijn om ze in de transdeco te steken:
1. Op zondagavond tussen 20u en 21u30 laden wij de camionette in.
2. Voor vertrek zullen wij staan wachten naast de bus de met de camionette (Voor vertrek = voor 8u30, keep that in mind).
Hercules moest 12 opdrachten vervullen
En dat waren moeilijke opdrachten. Wat ook moeilijk is, is op reis gaan en niets vergeten in te pakken. Daarom geef ik jullie graag nogmaals de lijst met dingen die je moet meebrengen:
- Je instrument
- Partituren
- Verkleedkledij: thema “alles met een H”
- Toiletgerief
- Handdoeken!
- Kledij, het durft wel eens regenen in Hamburg (ze zeggen er niet voor niets: “Es regnet nicht in Hamburg, das ist nur feuchte Luft”)
- Concertkledij! Zwart met rood accent (vergeet je zwarte schoenen niet!)
- Ondergoed en kousen
- Pyjama (oordopjes als je kamergenoten snurken)
- Gsm-lader, schoolwerk, iets voor op de bus
- Paspoort/Identiteitskaart
- Lunch voor op de bus
- Je GUSO-trui
- Je goed humeur x
Lakens en beddengoed zijn aanwezig in het hostel.
Een sprookje…
De 12 luie knechten. Die waren te lui om hun stagebrief die ze een aantal weken geleden kregen te gaan zoeken. Gelukkig maar kan je die brief met 2 klikken terug vinden. Hierzo!
Er zitten twaalf eieren in een dozijn
Eieren, spek, ontbijt, koffie, percolator, waterkoker! Ik kan jullie alvast melden dat we ondertussen een percolator gevonden hebben. Er zijn ongetwijfeld GUSO’ers die nog steeds getraumatiseerd zijn door het uit het hoofd leren van de tabel van Mendeljev. Gelukkig moeten jullie alle informatie over de stage in Hamburg niet uit het hoofd leren, want er is een stageboekje. Normaalgezien kreeg ieder van jullie al zo’n boekje in handen. Ik stel voor dat jullie ook allemaal naar de website gaan en het stageboekje digitaal downloaden op jullie slimme telefoon. Zo heb je het echt altijd bij je!

De Europese vlag heeft 12 sterren
12 sterren voor iedereen die zijn stage op tijd betaald heeft!!! Alle andere GUSO’ers zijn vanaf nu officieel wanbetalers. Gelukkig is onze Sugar Momma nog even goed gezind. Ze staat alle wanbetalers toe om nog snel 300 euro over te schrijven op BE30 7370 1925 1311 met vermelding van VOORNAAM + NAAM + STAGE.
Een octaaf bestaan uit 12 halve toonafstanden
Maar dat wisten jullie ongetwijfeld al. Na de repetitie op 18 april zullen we met z’n allen deelnemen aan een experiment. Iets met vreemde instrumenten en samen luisteren en onze mening geven enzo. Muzikale kennis is niet vereist. Bovendien zakken we na het experiment af naar de Cocktailavond van het Kultureel Konvent. Noteer het in je agenda en zet je alvast op aanwezig op het Facebookevenement.
Geen enkel Nederlands woord rijmt op twaalf
Probeer gerust een rijmwoordje te zoeken. Of een plaatsje in je agenda voor nog een tof evenement. Op 23 april speelt GUSO-baby GUSET een concert in Gent, en uiteraard zijn wij allemaal uitgenodigd.
Fauré, Marcello en andere schijven beluisteren kan voor slechts 5 euro (10 euro voor de + 26-jarigen) door te mailen naar guset@guso.be.
12, orkaankracht
En daarmee ook de sterkste wind op de schaal van Beaufort. Hopelijk is er op woensdag 25 april niet zo veel wind, want dan repeteren we onder de Stadshal op het Emile Braunplein. Als het weer een beetje meezit zullen we veel toevallige passanten plezieren met een streepje muziek. Als het weer tegenzit zullen we wat minder passanten plezieren, maar we hebben zeker een dak boven ons hoofd.
De repetitie zal doorgaan van 18u tot 20u30. Lukt het niet om op tijd op de repetitie te geraken? Geen probleem, probeer het toch, maar laat zeker iets aan Marieke weten indien je er niet op tijd geraakt.
De dierenriem kent 12 tekens
Donderdag 19 april vind de zeer fameuze GUSO kotrolling plaats! Schrijf het zeker en vast al op in je agenda. Tijdens de kotrolling gaan we op één avond naar een stuk of 5 feestjes op koten van GUSO’ers. Om tot een heuze kotfeestjeswandeling te komen, is team animatie dus op zoek naar mensen die op hun kot een kort feestje willen organiseren (al dan niet in een leuk thema). Voor inspiratie en verhalen over vorige kotrollings kan je zeker bij allerlei GUSO’ers terecht. Zie jij het (samen met een partner) wel zitten om een feestje te organiseren? 12 is a natural number
Last Wednesday, the wise man with the beard gave a nice presentation on Dvorak’s 9th symphony. If you missed it, don’t hesitate to ask the wise men about it in Hamburg. Some wise words from Steven himself, before we leave for Hamburg:
“prepare yourself at home, on the bus and everywhere, for the first rehearsal on Monday evening: we will play the dace of the medicin man Pau Puk Keewie (the 3rd part of Dvorak) and the Finale of the celloconcerto (Reh. Numb. 59)”
12 is the number of deciples that Jesus had
Those 12 apostles were always nice on time when Jesus planed a trip for them. I hope you will all be on time on Monday. That will be 8h30 at campus De Sterre, with your lugage and your instrument.

12 is considered to be the number of perfection
Perfection will be the puzzle that our logistics team will solve to get all people and instruments in the bus and vans. A short message of Matimaton:
HeyHey, On Monday we’ll be off to the beautiful city of Hamburg. Our bus won’t have the capacity to carry all the instruments, that’s why all the bigger instruments (celli, horns, trombones, viola?) will be transported in the transdeco (the big van) aka the Beast. There will be two moments to drop off your instrument:
1. On Sunday we’ll be loading the van from 20:00 till 21:30.
2.Before departure, you will also have the chance to load your instrument in the transdeco. We’ll be standing next to the bus.
Hercules had to fulfill 12 assignments
And they were hard to do. Also very difficult is not forgetting anything on the Hamburg trip. The list of what you should bring:
- Your instruments
- Scores
- Dress up outfit: theme “everything with an H”
- Toiletries
- Towels!
- Clothing (don’t forget your raincoat)
- Concert outfit! Black with a red accent (don’t forget your black shoes)
- Socks and underwear
- Pyjama (ear plugs if your roommates might snore)
- Your phone charger, schoolwork, something to do on the bus-ride

Haven’t gotten your hands on a booklet yet? No problem! You can download it right here. If you did get a booklet last Wednesday, I suggest you still download it onto your phone so you always have that information with you.
The European flag has 12 stars on it
Annelies awards 12 stars to all GUSO’ers who payed the ‘stage’ on time. Everybody else is now officially a defaulter (is that even a word?). Luckily, our Sugar Momma is in a good mood and allows all defaulters to quickly transfer 300 euro to BE30 7370 1925 1311. Don’t forget to mention your FIRST NAME + LAST NAME + STAGE.
An octave has 12 pitch classes
But you might already have known that. After the rehearsal on April 18th we will participate in an experiment all together. It will be something with instruments made out of new materials, listening all together and giving our opinion. Musical knowledge is not a requirement. After this experiment, we will all together go to the Cocktail evening of the Kultureel Konvent (the umbrella organisation that gives us funding of the university.) Put it in your agenda and RSVP on the Facebookevent.
There is no Dutch word that rimes on ‘twaalf’
You can try finding a riming word if you like. Also try to find a spot in your agenda to go to the GUSET concert on April 23th. (GUSET is the baby of GUSO). Attending ‘Fauré, Marcello en andere schijven’ is possible for only 5 euro (10 euro if you’re +26 years old) and by mailing guset@guso.be.
12, Hurricane
And that is the most wind possible on the Beaufort scale. I hope there will be less wind on Wednesday April 25th, because that day we are rehearsing outside under the Stadshal (on the Emile Braunplein). If the weather is nice, a lot of people will pass by and hear a piece of our lovely music. If the weather sucks, we will be dry, but there might be a little less people passing by. The rehearsal will be from 18h till 20h30. Please try to be there on time, it will be a once in a lifetime experience. If you don’t manage to make it on time, please let Marieke know.
The Western zodiac has twelve signs
On Thursday April 19th, the infamous GUSO kotrolling will take place. This is an evening in which we will go from ‘kot’ (room) to ‘kot’ to attend short roomparties organized by GUSOers. Write down the date. These kotrollings are typically epic. Do you feel like organizing one of the mini parties (alone or with a friend)? Send an email to animatie@guso.be.
