De concerten zitten erop! Of toch, de concerten in ons geliefde Gent 😉 Nu op naar dat concert in de Singel natuurlijk! Omdat we de afgelopen weken toch een beetje over en weer gegaan zijn van de ene naar de andere locatie, zet ik in deze nieuwsbrief graag onze muzikale reis verder. Alle hens aan dek dus!
Maar eerst, om deze reis te beginnen, graag een woordje van dank vanuit team logistiek, namens Marie:

1000 MAAL DANK!
Ik begin met een quote: ‘Logistiek is als een opblaaskrokodil, zit er 1 gat in, dan blijft die niet drijven.’ Maar we bleven wonderbaarlijk overeind. Ik had aan mijn mama beloofd dat er een leger aan hulpjes klaar zou staan en ik logistiek zeker niet alleen zou doen. Wat voor een leger is het GUSO! Ik zou nu iedereen persoonlijk kunnen bedanken, maar dan vergeet ik sowieso iemand en wordt dit dankwoordje veeeel te lang. Daarom dikke merci aan elke GUSO’er voor de kleine of grote hulp, zonder jullie was team logistiek als een pudding ineengezakt! Of je nu de dirigeerpupiter plaatste of hielp uitladen, je maakte onze taak net iets lichter. Jullie veroverden een speciaal plaatsje in mijn hart <3
Dan rest mij nog sorry te zeggen voor al mijn gezaag, ik zal het nooit meer doen! De blauwe plekken en dikke buil op mijn voorhoofd zijn het zo waard! 🙂

Dat in-en uitladen was inderdaad wel een feestje! Floris en de Ju vonden dat ook; de foto spreekt voor zich!
Stop 1: Therminal (one love)
We gaan woensdag terug naar onze vertrouwde stek, naar onze geliefde Therminal. Omdat we het GUSO niet kunnen missen (ik hoop dat iedereen ondertussen deze GUSO-vibe heeft) en het programma zooo leuk is om te spelen, gaan we nu woensdag 12 december terug repeteren in de Therminal. Om 19u30 vliegen we er terug vol goede moed in en gaan we nog enkele plaatsen repeteren die nog niet pico bello in orde waren op de vorige concerten… Maar, niet getreurd, niemand is perfect; en als we perfect zouden spelen, dan zouden we niet meer moeten repeteren (en geef toe, hoe saai is dat….). De repetitievolgorde van komende woensdag zal er als volgt uit zien:
• 19u30: Beethoven
• 20u30: Pauze
• 20u50: Rautavaara
• 21u15: Poulenc
• 21u40: Einde + glas heffen op de productie! –> ook de mensen die altijd de trein moeten halen, kunnen dus nog even samen met ons het glas heffen –> nog even blijven is dus warm aanbevolen!!

Stop 2: deSingel (@Antwerpen)
Omdat twee concerten ons nog niet genoeg voldoening geven, sluiten we op zondag 16 december in schoonheid af in deSingel in Antwerpen. We verzamelen om 9u30 op het Kramersplein in Gent om daarna met de bus naar Antwerpen door te rijden. Daar zullen we nog even repeteren en raccord houden, om dan te schitteren op ons concert om 15u. Als je niet meegaat met de bus vanuit Gent, laat Marieke dan zeker iets weten, zodat we niet onnodig op jou moeten wachten!!!
Als je alles over deze dag eens op een rijtje wil zien, lees dan zeker de concertbrief. Voor de slordigaards onder jullie die de concertbrief al verloren zijn, hier vinden jullie hem terug!
Stop 3: locatie nog onbekend, maar het is voor een dinertje…
De Gentse concerten zijn gespeeld, de tickets zijn verkocht, de zalen werden goed gevuld… Maar één vraag rest ons nog… wie won de fameuze ticketwedstrijd??? Velen zagen hem van mijlenver aankomen, de man die op zichzelf een hele sectie bevolkt en elke week bovenaan pronkte in de tussenstand… Met trots mag ik u meedelen dat het slagwerk (lees: Arthur) de ticketwedstrijd gewonnen heeft! Proficiat!!! Voor de volledigheid geef ik nog de eindstand mee:
- Slagwerk: 18 tickets
- Viool 2: 12,8 tickets
- Viool 1: 10,8 tickets
Arthur mag zich dus in het tweede semester verwachten aan een etentje, georganiseerd en met liefde verzorgd door team animatie! Maar omdat team animatie graag dineert met veel muzikanten en Marthe altijd te veel kookt (ik spreek uit ervaring, ik leef er namelijk mee samen op kot), zijn ook de tweede violen van harte uitgenodigd op dit etentje!!! En dat hebben ze voor een groot deel te danken aan Robin, die de GUSO-annalen ingaat als de recordhouder van de ticketwedtrijd!
Stop 4: Kerstmarkt (@Gent)
Jeej, de kerstmarkt komt eraan! En daar gaan we met het GUSO natuurlijk naartoe! Op woensdag 19 december gaan we samen wat rondlopen op de kerstmarkt, onze schaatsschoenen aantrekken, aan een glühweintje of een chocomelkske sippen (jullie zouden nog gaan denken dat alles om alcohol draait in het GUSO… :)). Waar en wanneer we precies afspreken, zal team animatie jullie nog meedelen, maar blokkeer deze datum alvast in jullie agenda’s!!!
Stop 5: Valencia, of toch niet?
Een secretaris die zaagt, dat is erg, maar een penning die zaagt, nog veel erger! Onze arme Judith blijft er maar op hameren dat er nog steeds 12 snoodaards zijn die hun stageschulden nog niet betaald hebben! De mensen die het emotioneel niet aankunnen om die betaling door te voeren (of om één of andere duistere reden hun schulden nog niet betaald hebben), jullie zijn genoteerd op de lijst van notoire wanbetalers van het GUSO! Judith staat trouwens op het punt om jullie een vliegtuigticket te boeken naar Valencia vanuit Kroatië met 5 overstappen, u weze gewaarschuwd!!!
Als jullie trouwens nog niet officieel hebben laten weten dat jullie meegaan naar Valencia, vul dan zeker de enquête van Pieter in! (@Bram/Stijn: dit puntje is speciaal voor jou!)
Stop 6: je zetel/je bad/je bureau/een plaats waar jij je op je gemak voelt… (geen commentaar)
Om het zwarte gat te vullen, dat wel eens kan optreden na de concerten, heeft onze dirigent Steven een geweldig medicijn gevonden: opnames beluisteren! Natuurlijk kunnen jullie zo wat nagenieten van de concerten, maar met ons volgend concert in zicht, is het een aanrader om de beide opnames (Christus Koning Kerk + Bijloke) te beluisteren met je eigen partituur in de hand! Het kan echt heel leerrijk zijn om dit eens te doen, dus zeker een must! (Je hoeft ook geen 2u aan een stuk te luisteren, je kan de opnames op pauze zetten wanneer je wil, dus verdeel het werk zeker een beetje…) Jullie vinden de opnames terug op mega.nz! Op de bijsluiter van dit medicijn staat wel dat het enkel voor eigen gebruik bedoeld is! (Schudden voor gebruik hoeft niet, dit kan rare bijwerkingen veroorzaken…) Verhandel deze opnames dus niet voor woekerprijzen aan je vrienden, want dan kom je voor het GUSO gerecht!!

The concerts are over! At least, the concerts in our beloved Ghent 😉 Now we go in one straight line to that concert in the Singel of course! Because we have been travelling from one location to another in recent weeks, I’d like to continue our musical journey in this newsletter.
But first, to start this journey, a word of thanks from team logistics, on behalf of Marie:
Dear GUSO people,
1000 MUST THANK YOU!
I start with a quote: “Logistics is like an inflatable crocodile, if there is one hole in it, it will not stay afloat.” But we remained miraculous. I had promised my mum that an army of helping people would be ready and I would certainly not do my logistics alone. What kind of an army is GUSO! I would now be able to thank everyone personally, but then I will forget someone anyway and this word of thanks will be too long. Therefore, thanks to every GUSO member for the small or big help, without you, team logistics had collapsed like a pudding! Whether you replaced the chairs in the church or helped to load and unload, you made our task just a bit lighter. You conquered a special place in my heart <3
Then I still have to say sorry for all my complaints, I will never do it again! The bruises and thick bump on my forehead are so worth it! 🙂

Stop 1: Therminal (one love)
We return Wednesday to our familiar spot, to our beloved Therminal. Because we can’t miss GUSO (I hope everyone has this GUSO feeling) and the program is so much fun to play, we are going to rehearse in the Therminal on Wednesday 12 December. At 7:30 pm we begin in good spirits and we will rehearse some places that weren’t yet perfect played at the previous concerts … But, no worries, nobody is perfect; and if we would play perfectly, we wouldn’t have to rehearse anymore (and admit, how boring is that ….). Here you will find the program for next rehearsal:
• 7:30 pm: Beethoven
• 8.30 pm: Break
• 8.50 pm: Rautavaara
• 9:15 pm: Poulenc
• 9:40 pm: End + celebrating our musical production! -> also the people who always have to catch the train, can still celebrate together with us -> staying for a while is therefore warmly recommended !!
If you really can’t come or if you’re later due to circumstances, let Marieke know something via vice@guso.be!
Stop 2: the Singel (@Antwerp)
Because two concerts are not enough to satisfy us, we will end in beauty on Sunday, December 16th at the Singel in Antwerp. We meet at 9:30am on the Kramersplein in Ghent and then continue our trip to Antwerp by bus. There we will rehearse and we’ll shine at our concert at 15h. If you don’t join the bus from Ghent, let Marieke know something, so we don’t have to wait unnecessarily for you !!!

Stop 3: location still unknown, but it is for a dinner …
The concerts of Ghent have been played, the tickets have been sold, the halls have been filled well … But one question remains … who won the famous ticket contest??? Many saw him coming from miles away, the man who himself represent an entire section and showed off every week at the top in the running score… I can proudly announce that the percussion (read: Arthur) has won the ticket contest! Congrats!!! For the sake of completeness I give the final score:
- Percussion: 18 tickets
- 2nd Violin: 12,8 tickets
- 1st Violin: 10,8 tickets
So Arthur can expect a dinner in the second semester, organized by team animation! But because team animation likes to dine with a lot of musicians, the second violins are also warmly invited to this dinner !!! And they owe this to a large extent to Robin, who entered the GUSO annals as the record holder of the ticket game!
Stop 4: Christmas market (@Ghent)
Yihaaa, the Christmas market is coming! And of course we are going with the GUSO! On Wednesday, December 19th, we’ll go for a walk around the Christmas market, we’ll put on our ice skating shoes and sip from a glühwein or from a hot chocolate. Where and when we meet exactly, team animation will tell you, but block this date in your diaries !!!
Stop 5: Valencia, or not?
A secretary who complains, that is bad, but a penny who complains, much worse! Our poor Judith continues to insist that there are still 12 dodgers who haven’t yet paid their rehearsal weekend debts! The people who can not handle it emotionally (or haven’t paid their debts for some dark reason), you are listed on the list of notorious defaulters of GUSO! Judith is actually about to book you a plane ticket to Valencia from Croatia with 5 transfers, you are warned !!!
If you have not officially announced that you are going to Valencia, don’t forget to fill in Pieter’s survey!
Stop 6: your seat / your bath / your desk / a place where you feel at ease … (no comment)
To fill the ‘black hole’, which can occur after the concerts, our conductor Steven has found a great medicine: listening to recordings! Of course you can reminisce on the concerts, but with our next concert in sight, it is highly recommended to listen to both recordings (Christ King Church + Bijloke) with your own score in your hands! It can be very instructive to do this, so it’s definitely a must! (You don’t have to listen 2 hours at a time, you can pause the recordings whenever you want, so divide the work for sure …) You can find the recordings on mega.nz! Those recordings are only intended for personal use! So don’t trade/sell/spread them among your friends please!!
