Proficiat! U hebt het aangedurfd om de mail van jullie kersverse secretaris te openen… en dan hebt u een gevaarlijke doch lonende missie ondernomen… u hebt namelijk geklikt op de link naar de nieuwsbrief! En hier is hij dan, mijn eerste nieuwsbrief, met plezier aan jullie voorgesteld!
Het was misschien geen 100-jaar-lange slaap zoals bij Doornroosje, maar laat ons er toch eerlijk over wezen dat het GUSO er lang genoeg tussenuit is geweest 😉 Terwijl er achter de schermen al volop gewerkt wordt, wek ik jullie rustig uit je zoete slaap…
GUSO back at it again!
Yess! It’s GUSO time, en dat betekent… repetitie! Jullie worden allen verwacht op woensdag 26 september om 19u30 in de Trechterzaal (Therminal) voor onze eerste repetitie. Deze zal zoals gewoonlijk een open repetitie zijn, dus kom zeker op tijd! Ennn… er zullen ook COCKTAILS zijn!! Team animatie staat voor jullie paraat om de lekkerste cocktails in elkaar te shaken!
Als je er niet kan bij zijn, of later bent door omstandigheden, stuur dan zeker naar Marieke op het nummer 0493793956 of mail naar vice@guso.be.
Sh*t, die enquête(s) vergeten invullen!
Sommigen onder jullie zijn misschien even van deze aardbol afgedwaald naar de planeet Zork, en dat was eraan te zien! De herinschrijvingsenquête is namelijk nog niet door iedereen ingevuld. Dus als je dit schooljaar opnieuw wil meespelen met het leukste orkest van ’t land, vul deze enquête dan zeker snel in!
Alsof één enquête al niet vermoeiend genoeg was om in te vullen, is er toch wel niet nog een tweede enquête zeker?!! Jazeker wel, en het is dan nog wel eentje om de werking van het bestuur te evalueren. Het neemt hoogstens 10 minuutjes van jouw kostbare (lees: eigenlijk niet zo kostbare) tijd in beslag en het bestuur is jullie eeuwig dankbaar! Houd jullie vooral niet in, maar laat die kritische stemmen weerklinken!
Nieuw vlees in de kuip!
Niet alleen jullie moeten wakker geschud worden, maar ook al onze potentieel nieuwe leden! Daarom een warme oproep aan jullie allemaal om ons promofilmpje van Danzon te delen op jullie fb-pagina, want, hoe meer zielen, hoe meer vreugd! Spread the GUSO love <3 !!
Als jullie het echt sociaal onaanvaardbaar vinden om jullie fb-tijdlijn te laten besmeuren door keitoffe GUSO-filmpjes, dan heb ik een andere oplossing voor jullie! Er is namelijk een nieuwe ledenwervingsaffiche gemaakt door Margot, en die is écht wel de moeite om op Facebook rond te strooien! Deel hem op je tijdlijn, stel hem in als omslagfoto, of plak er desnoods je eigen hoofd op… alles is goed om het GUSO te promoten!!
Altijd al eens willen spelen in een aula?? Het kan nu met het GUSO!
Leden werven doen we niet alleen via social media (dat zou maar saai zijn), maar ook in ‘real life’ natuurlijk! Daarom gaan we ook dit jaar de eerstejaarsstudenten warm maken voor ons orkest door te gaan spelen in verschillende auditoria! We zullen opnieuw de Game of Thrones-soundtrack spelen (lees: simpel en toch catchy), en je krijgt gegarandeerd een daverend applaus van je medestudenten! We kunnen natuurlijk geen volledig orkest op de planken zetten in de aula’s, dus spelen we maar met een kwintet strijkers elke keer. Als je deze ervaring wel ziet zitten, vul dan zeker de poll op Facebook in of stuur een berichtje naar Marieke! (Niet iedereen kan altijd, dus als je tijd hebt en wil meedoen, laat zeker weten!!)
Iets over je agenda erbij nemen en belachelijk grote GUSO-aantekeningen maken…
Misschien zijn jullie door de vakantiesfeer ook eventjes vergeten wat de belangrijke GUSO-data zijn… Geen probleem, ik speel wel jullie wandelende agenda!

Een nieuw jaar, nieuwe muziek!
We kunnen natuurlijk niet nog een semester het derde deel van De Nieuwe Wereld spelen, want dan zouden de meesten spontaan een hartinfarct krijgen… (Voor degenen met heimwee heb ik de link naar een opname er toch maar bijgezet ;)) We gaan dus voor nieuwe muziek, en die is niet van de poes! Hier vinden jullie het programma voor volgend semester:
- 7de symfonie, Beethoven
- Cantus Arcticus, Rautavaraa
- Concerto voor 2 piano’s, Poulenc
Begin dus allemaal maar te zoeken naar goede opnames (–> voor Beethoven heeft Steven jullie huiswerk al gemaakt, zie link) en mogen deze componisten jullie oortjes prikkelen!
Met deze muzikale noot besluit ik de nieuwsbrief; hopelijk hebben jullie zin om er alweer in te vliegen voor een spetterend GUSO jaar!

GUSO back at it again!
Yess! It’s GUSO time, and that means … rehearsal! You are all expected on Wednesday 26 September at 7:30 pm in the Trechterzaal (Therminal) for our first rehearsal. This will be an open rehearsal as usual, so come on time! Andd … there will also be COCKTAILS !! Team animation is ready for you to shake up the tastiest cocktails!

Sh * t, I’ve forgotten to fill in the survey(s)!
Some of you may have just wandered from this globe to an extraterrestrial planet, and that was to be seen! The re-registration survey has not yet been completed by everyone. So, if you want to play again this school year with the best orchestra in the country, fill in this survey!
As if one survey was not exhausting enough to fill in, is there not still a second survey for sure? !! Yes, yes, and it is one to evaluate the functioning of the bestuur. It takes no more than 10 minutes of your precious (read: not very precious) time and the bestuur will be eternally grateful to you! In particular, do not hold back, but let those critical voices resonate!
New members in the orchestra!
Not only you have to be awakened, but also all of our potentially new members! Therefore, a warm appeal to all of you to share our promo movie from Danzon on your fb page, because, the more, the merrier! Spread the GUSO love <3 !!
If you really think it’s socially unacceptable to have your fb timeline smeared by cool GUSO movies, then I have another solution for you! There is a new member recruitment poster created by Margot, and it is really worth to scatter on Facebook! Share it on your timeline, put it as a cover photo, or stick your head on it if necessary … everything is good to promote GUSO !!
Always wanted to play in an auditorium? It is now possible with the GUSO!
We recruit members not only through social media (that would be boring), but also in ‘real life’ of course! That is why this year we are going to warm up the first year students for our orchestra by playing in different auditoria of the university! We will play the Game of Thrones soundtrack again (read: simple and yet catchy), and you will get a resounding applause from your fellow students! Of course, we can’t put a complete orchestra in the auditoria, so we’ll play with a quintet strings every time. If you like to share this experience, make sure to fill in the poll on Facebook or send a message to Marieke! (Not everyone is always available, so, if you have time and you want to participate, make sure to tell us!)
Something about taking your diary and making ridiculously large GUSO notes …
Maybe because of the holiday atmosphere, you have also forgotten what the important GUSO data are … No problem, I’ll play your walking diary!

A new year, new music!
Of course we can’t play the third part of The New World Symphony for another semester, because then, most people would spontaneously receive a heart attack … (For those with nostalgia, I added the link to a recording anyway;)) So, we go for new music, and this won’t be easy! Here you’ll find the program for next semester:
- 7th symphony, Beethoven
- Cantus Arcticus, Rautavaraa
- Concerto for 2 pianos, Poulenc
So, start looking for good recordings (–> for Beethoven, Steven has already done your homework, see link) and may these composers stimulate your ears!
