Liefste GUSO-ers,
Morgen kunnen we op VRT1 kijken naar de laatste aflevering van Kamp Waes. Maar wees niet getreurd, want er ziet al een nieuw top programma in de pijplijn: ‘Kamp GUSO’. Een Gents studentenorkest gaat de uitdaging aan om een fantastische concertreeks neer te zetten. Ik mocht alvast het script voor de eerste aflevering inkijken en het ziet er veelbelovend uit. Hieronder vinden jullie alvast de eerste uitdagingen zodat jullie zich optimaal kunnen voorbereiden:
1. Kom op tijd!
Een goeie planning start met stiptheid. Jullie eerste opdracht is dus om altijd op tijd aanwezig te zijn in de repetitie. Dat wil zeggen om 19u15 aanwezig in het repetitielokaal om te helpen opstellen, je instrument uit te pakken en op te warmen. Zo kunnen we stipt om 19u30 starten met musiceren!
2. Een woordje van Steven
Voor we op onze lange toch vertrekken heeft Steven alvast nog enkele bemoedigende woorden voor ons:
Als je nú zo maximaal mogelijk, tijd maakt om uw partijen te studeren, zal de winst volgende week dubbel zijn. Echt.
Als je nu zoveel als mogelijk gaatjes tijd vult met bestuderen van je muziek, zal het spelplezier over enkele weken driédubbel zijn.
Als ge u nu zo goed mogelijk voorbereid met je partituur en je instrument, maak je uw vrienden in het GUSO straks vier keer zo blij ofte zotcontent.

3. Kaartlezen
Ook in Kamp Waes was kaartlezen een van de grote uitdagingen, bij kamp GUSO mogen we dus zeker niet onder doen! Tijdens de partiële repetitie van volgende week zitten jullie per sectie verspreid over lokalen in de Therminal en de befaamde campus Plateau-Rozier (beter bekend als het doolhof van de Blandijn). Hieronder zien jullie de verdeling:
- Viool 1: leslokaal 1.4 (campus Plateau)
- Viool 2: trechterzaal (Therminal)
- Altviool: vergaderlokaal 1 (Therminal)
- Cello: leslokaal 1.1 (campus Plateau)
- Contrabas: leslokaal 1.3 (campus Plateau)
- Hout: leslokaal 2.3 (campus Plateau)
- Koper: tba (krijgen nog een bericht in de groep)
Voor de muzikanten die naar Plateau-Rozier moeten geef ik alvast de tip om ‘Rozier 44’ in te geven in je GPS en deze plattegronden grondig te bestuderen voor je vertrekt.
4. For The Win!
Een vast onderdeel in kamp GUSO is natuurlijk ook de ticketwedstrijd. Hierin strijden alle secties van het orkest om gemiddeld het meeste aantal tickets te verkopen. Bij winst krijgen ze eeuwige roem en een gratis etentje.
Hoe zorg je dat je wint? Ik ben blij dat je het vraagt!
- (1) Overtuig mensen om een ticket te komen
- (2) Stuur het de juiste ticket link door:
- (3) Zorg dat ze bij ‘Wie heeft jou dit ticket aangesmeerd?’ jouw naam noteren!
5. Speurtocht
Onze volgende opdracht is een speurtocht naar een 1e trompet! Iedereen vertrekt de wijde wereld in op zoek naar die ene blazer die we zoeken. Wie als eerste die trompettist aan Andreas kan aanbieden via een berichtje of mailtje krijgt een fantastische beloning!
6. Team Building
Om te zorgen dat we met Kamp GUSO slagen in onze opzet heeft team animatie samen met de andere ensembles gezorgd voor een perfecte team building: de ensemble cantus! Op donderdag 14/03 komen het GUK, GUHO en GUSO samen voor een avond vol plezier. Laat dus aan iedereen weten dat je komt en schrijf je vooral in!

Dearest GUSO members,
Tomorrow, we can watch the final episode of “Kamp Waes” on VRT1 (a very popular belgian tv show). But do not be saddened, for a new top program is already in the pipeline: ‘Kamp GUSO.’ A Ghent student orchestra takes on the challenge of delivering a fantastic concert series. I was given a sneak peek at the script for the first episode, and it looks promising. Below, you will find the first challenges so you can prepare optimally:
1. Be on time!
A good plan starts with punctuality. Your first task is always to be present at rehearsal on time. This means being there at 7:15 PM to help set up, unpack your instrument, and warm up. This way, we can start making music promptly at 7:30 PM!
2. A word from Steven
Before embarking on our long journey, Steven has some encouraging words for us:
If you make the maximum effort now to study your parts, the payoff will be double next week. Truly.
If you fill as many gaps in your time as possible studying your music, the enjoyment of playing will be tripled in a few weeks.
If you prepare as well as possible with your score and your instrument now, you will make your friends in GUSO four times as happy or crazy content soon.

3. Map Reading
In “Kamp Waes,” map reading was one of the significant challenges, so in Kamp GUSO, we must certainly not fall behind! During the partial rehearsal next week, you will be spread out by section across rooms in the Therminal and the famous Plateau-Rozier campus (better known as the maze of the Blandijn). Below is the distribution:
- Violin 1: classroom 1.4 (Plateau campus)
- Violin 2: trechterzaal (Therminal)
- Viola: meeting room 1 (Therminal)
- Cello: classroom 1.1 (Plateau campus)
- Double Bass: classroom 1.3 (Plateau campus)
- Woodwinds: classroom 2.3 (Plateau campus)
- Brass: tba (will receive a message in the group)
For the musicians heading to Plateau-Rozier, I recommend entering ‘Rozier 44‘ into your GPS and thoroughly studying these maps before you depart.
4. For The Win!
A regular part of Kamp GUSO is, of course, the ticket competition. All sections of the orchestra compete to sell the highest average number of tickets. If they win, they receive eternal fame and a free dinner.
How do you ensure you win? I’m glad you asked!

5. Scavenger Hunt
Our next task is a scavenger hunt for a 1st trumpeter! Everyone sets out into the wide world in search of that one brass player we seek. The first person to offer that trumpeter to Andreas via a message or email gets a fantastic reward!
6. Team Building
To ensure that we succeed in our goal with Kamp GUSO, the animation team, together with the other ensembles, has arranged a perfect team-building activity: the ensemble cantus! On Thursday, 14/03, GUK, GUHO, and GUSO will come together for an evening of fun. Let everyone know you’re coming and especially sign up!
