Liefste GUSO-ers,

Een week zonder nieuwsbrief is een week niet geleefd. En aangezien jullie nog een lange treinrit te wachten staat, stuur ik jullie vanuit het (voorlopig) zonnige België deze nieuwsbrief om enkele minuten van die verveling te verhelpen.

TICKETSSS

Geen nieuwsbrief zonder een aanmoediging om meer tickets te verkopen. Aan de foto’s in de WhatsApp groep te zien was de reclame voor het Uppsala concert alvast meer dan geslaagd, maar voor Gent is er nog veel werk aan de winkel.

Kaat nam de cijfers erbij en zag dat er momenteel nog 1112 plaatsen vrij zijn. Dat wil zeggen dat nog maar 20,57% van alle tickets verkocht zijn. Maar Kaat zou Kaat niet zijn als ze alvast een oplossing bedacht had. Als we allemaal nog 16 tickets verkopen zitten de zalen vol!

P.S. aangezien jullie toch voor de komende tijd in een gesloten vehikel zitten met heel wat andere mensen, is dit het ideale moment om promo te maken. En hoe dichter je bij België komt, hoe groter de kans dat je ze naar Gent krijgt op 1, 2 of 12 mei. (Wie mensen uit het buitenland kan overtuigen om een ticket te kopen krijgt extra punten voor de ticketwedstrijd!) Toon dus deze QR-code aan al jullie medereizigers:

Vriendjes

Ik ben er zeker van dat jullie tijdens de stage allemaal nog veel betere vrienden geworden zijn, maar het GUSO is ook nog opzoek naar vrienden en hulpjes voor de concerten. Ken je nog iemand die geschikt is als vriend en/of hulpje van het GUSO? Stuur ze door naar Kaat!

Zijn je ouders al vriend, maar hebben ze hun tickets nog niet gekocht? Dan is nu het moment aangebroken om ze eraan te herinneren. Je stuurt gewoon:

News flash

Aangezien jullie deze hele week in jullie muzikale, Zweedse bubbel hebben geleefd, zal het een grote aanpassing zijn om terug in België aan te komen. Om te zorgen dat jullie niet volledig vervreemd zijn van de maatschappij heb ik hier voor jullie de belangrijkste nieuwsjes verzameld. (bepaal zelf welke items 1 april grapjes waren)

De tijd gaat trager – Had je het gevoel dat die treinrit heen toch iets sneller ging? Dan ben je helemaal correct. Wetenschappers zijn er namelijk achter gekomen dat de aarde trager draait door de klimaatopwarming.

Borstwerpen – De burgemeester van Borsbeek kondigde deze week met trots aan dan zijn gemeente zal fuseren met Antwerpen. Om nu voor eens en altijd af te zijn van de verwarring met de provincie Antwerpen hebben beide partijen besloten om samen verder te gaan onder de naam ‘Borstwerpen’.

Gmail is jarig! – Op 1 april werd Gmail 20 jaar en dat was geen grap (of wel?). VRT NWS lijstte enkele van Googles beste 1 april grappen op:

2000: verschillende types foutmeldingen in de zoekmachine zoals “error 008: er zit storing op de lijn, probeer aluminiumfolie of afstandsbediening uit de buurt te verwijderen”.
2005: lancering van de Google Gulp, een fictief drankje dat “je gebruik van de Google-zoekrobot zou optimaliseren”.
2006: Google Romance wordt aangekondigd op de main page van de zoekmachine, met als ondertitel: “Daten is een kwestie van zoeken. Los het op met Google Romance”.
2011: Google UK biedt een Google Translate aan om te kunnen communiceren met dieren.
2014: WazeDates zou dezelfde technologie gebruiken als de verkeersapp, maar dan als een manier om mensen te ontmoeten en verliefd te worden.
2019: Google Nederland brengt een video uit op YouTube over “Google Tulip”. Er zou een nieuwe app bestaan om te communiceren met tulpen.

Amerikaans presidentieel vliegtuig bestolen – de Air Force One is zeer goed beveiligd, maar blijkbaar niet tegen diefstal. Journalisten worden opgeroepen om op te houden met het stelen van voorwerpen uit het presidentieel vliegtuig. Kussenslopen, glazen en borden blijken populaire hebbedingetjes onder de journalisten.

Gedaan met de Chinese piano prodigies – Altijd al eens piano willen leren spelen? Nu is je kans, want het aantal Chinese wondertjes dat je de moet in de schoenen doet zakken, is aan het dalen. In China is de verkoop van piano’s ingestort, na een jarenlange hype. Heel wat kinderen laten hun pianoles links liggen, nadat de overheid in 2021 de naschoolse activiteiten aan banden heeft gelegd. Met failliete pianowinkels tot gevolg en dat veroorzaakt paniek bij internationale pianobouwers.

Orka in Koksijde – Strandgangers werden maandag ochtend opgeschrikt toen ze een orka op het strand van Koksijde zagen liggen. Na een wetenschappelijke analyse werd het dier door de brandweer van het strand gehaald.

Stationpiano’s in België – We kennen het allemaal, de video’s van mensen die op een publieke piano een pop nummertje spelen met tientallen toevallige voorbijgangers die hen bewonderen. Vanaf nu kan jij dat ook zijn! Tot 9 mei staat er een publieke piano in het station van Brugge en Brussel-Centraal (hoor ik daar GUSO flashmop??). Daarna trekken ze nog naar Doornik en Antwerpen-Centraal.

Aartselaarse aarsjes – Na de Gentse neusjes en de Antwerpse handjes heb je nu ook de Aartselaarse aarsjes. Een heerlijke praline met een vulling van romige praliné in de vorm van een prachtig achterwerk.

Een verhaaltje voor het slapengaan …

Ben je vanavond nog als laatste wakker en is je boek al uit (of had je er geen mee), geen nood! YouTube heeft een volledige bibliotheek aan gratis audioboeken voor je klaar staan. Zo kan je in deze slapeloze nacht toch nog wegdromen of kan je je literaire kennis nog wat aanscherpen. Hier alvast een korte selectie:

Dearest GUSO members,

A week without a newsletter is a week not lived. And since you still have a long train ride ahead, I’m sending you this newsletter from (currently) sunny Belgium to alleviate some minutes of that boredom.

No newsletter without an encouragement to sell more tickets. Judging by the photos in the WhatsApp group, the promotion for the Uppsala concert was already more than successful, but there is still much work to be done for Ghent.

Kaat checked the numbers and found out that currently, there are still 1112 seats available. That means only 20.57% of all tickets have been sold. But Kaat wouldn’t be Kaat if she hadn’t already come up with a solution. If we all sell another 16 tickets, the concerthalls will be full!

P.S. Since you’re all in a closed vehicle with many other people for the foreseeable future, this is the ideal moment to promote our concerts. And the closer you get to Belgium, the greater the chance you have of getting them to Ghent on May the 1th, 2nd, or 12th. (Whoever can convince people from abroad to buy a ticket gets extra points for the ticket contest!) So, show this QR-code to all your fellow travelers:

News flash

Since you’ve lived in your musical, Swedish bubble all week, it will be a big adjustment to return to Belgium. To ensure you’re not completely estranged from society, I’ve gathered the most important news for you. (you decide which items were April fools jokes)

Time goes slower – Did you feel like the train ride there went faster? Then you’re absolutely correct. Scientists have discovered that the earth is rotating slower due to climate change.

Borstwerpen – The mayor of Borsbeek proudly announced this week that his town will merge with Antwerp. To finally put an end to the confusion with the Antwerp province, both parties have decided to continue together under the name ‘Borstwerpen’.

Gmail’s birthday! – Gmail turned 20 on April 1st, and that was no joke (or was it?). VRT NWS listed some of Google’s best April 1st pranks:

theft on the Air Force One – The Air Force One is highly secured, but apparently not against theft. Journalists are urged to stop stealing items from the presidential plane. Pillowcases, glasses, and plates seem to be popular items among the journalists.

End of Chinese piano prodigies – Ever wanted to learn to play the piano? Now is your chance, as the number of Chinese prodigies that make you feel inadequate is decreasing. In China, piano sales have plummeted after years of hype. Many children are skipping piano lessons after the government tightened regulations on after-school activities in 2021. This has led to bankrupt piano stores and panic among international piano makers.

Orca in Koksijde – Beachgoers were startled Monday morning when they saw an orca lying on the beach in Koksijde. After a scientific analysis, the animal was removed from the beach by the fire brigade.

Station piano’s in Belgium – We all know the videos of people playing a pop tune on a public piano with dozens of passersby admiring them. From now on, you can be one of them! Until May 9th, there is a public piano in the stations of Bruges and Brussels-Central (do I hear a GUSO flash mob??). After that, they will move to Tournai and Antwerp-Central.

Aartselaar buttocks – After the Ghent noses and the Antwerp hands, you now also have the Aartselaar buttocks. A delicious praline with a creamy praline filling in the shape of a posterior.
